Landing a job is a matter of pride. The job interview plays a huge role in determining your acceptance. If two applicants have the same credentials, the one who aced the interview lands the job. Even in circumstances, where applicants of varying credentials apply, the job interview remains crucial as ever. It is oftentimes the first point of contact between the candidate and the company. Resumes and letters of recommendation have their say, but nothing speaks louder than your interview performance. To ace an interview, there are a bunch of things one must pay attention to.

Before the Interview
The Intent

Every interview is conducted with a specific purpose. Sometimes, they are to learn who you are as a person. Some interviews are conducted to test your knowledge and verify the details on your resume. Sometimes, interviews are formalities to discuss details concerning your job and see if you would be a good fit at the workplace. In most cases, an interview is a mix of them all. Knowing the intention of the interview ensures you are prepped accordingly. If the interviewer has not disclosed the nature of the interview, it is best to be prepared for all possible options.

The Questions
There are some generic questions that are asked in all interviews. These include but are not restricted to questions about introducing yourself, your past experiences, your opinions on the latest development in the field, your past projects, and your interest to work at that particular place. It is highly advisable to be ready with these questions beforehand. One need not memorize a script for the interview but can always be prepared for these to come.

The Company
Applicants are expected to research a little about the company they are applying to and explain their interest in the company in focus. We all have our reasons to work with a company. It may be due to the impact of their projects, their range of clientele, or their great work culture. Oftentimes, it is just for the pay. However, stating the salary as the motivation to apply is frowned upon.

Getting Ready
Dressing up for an interview is important. First impressions are hard to change. Your dressing style is often the first thing a person notices about you. For an interview, one need not wear expensive, or clothes of big labels. The clothes must be clean, washed, and neatly ironed. It is also suggested to stick to clothes in soft and solid colors. Clothes with bright eye-catching patterns may distract the interviewer. Even if the interview is being conducted virtually, dressing up will ensure you enter the mental zone of professionalism.

Reaching the Interview Venue
Being punctual for interviews is of the utmost importance. And when it comes to interviews, you should arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time. There are times when elevators may fail, or you may have trouble locating the interview venue. Such incidents might add to your nervousness and cause unexpected delays.
Carry all your documents for the interview and copies of your resume as well. Though a lot of things in the world are turning increasingly digital, a lot of places still prefer printed resumes.

During the interview
The way you behave during your interview is key. Pay keen attention to your interviewer’s questions and never interrupt them. If you are asked a tricky question, do take a minute or two before answering. An interview is a time for you to shine. Use the spotlight to talk about your achievements and experiences. Having pride over one’s work is often a desired personality attribute. By doing so, you will certainly ace your interview and land the job!
